It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Heikkinen, age 68, a beloved resident of Elo. Mary passed away peacefully at home.
She was raised in the close-knit community of Otter Lake and retired from the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock. From a young age, Mary developed a deep love for horses–a passion that brought her joy throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving children, Jason Heikkila and Jodi Heikkila; her grandchildren Sydney (Tyler), Jadyn (Rhett), Dhane, Dorian (Sammy), Dexter (Lexi), and Ruthie; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Walker, Sutton, Riley, and Lincoln. Mary is also survived by her brothers, Mike (Elma) and Tom (Jan); as well as her special friend, Alan Ollanketo, who has been by her side for the past 19 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew W. Heikkinen an Ruth G. Blum; her siblings, Larry, Ralph, Andrew, and Gerald Heikkinen; her son, Brian Heikkila; and the father of her children, Dennis Heikkila.
A graveside service will be held on May 31 at 1:00 P.M. at the Elo Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at the Otter Lake Sportsman Club.
