Storm damage in Baraga County from a mid-May storm could cost more than eight million dollars to repair. On Friday Representative Karl Bohnak spoke with Baraga County leaders to learn more about the area’s recent flash flood and resulting storm damage to roads and properties. Local officials told Rep. Bohnak one of the 38 road segments could cost one million dollars alone to install permanent repairs.
Representative Bohnak says officials are still assessing storm damage, adding the region has a lot of work to complete, and with the whole community behind efforts things will return to normal. Three roads face long term closures, at East River Drive and Secret Creek, Beartown Road between us-41 and Shippy road, and Pequaming road
between whil-i-gig road and Marksman Road. Other areas damaged by the flooding include Skanee Road, from Townline road to the Slate River, Bayshore Road from Jentoft Road to Whil-i-gig Road, Old 41 from the highway to Sturgeon Road, and Indian Cemetery Road at Meadow Creek.
Local officials continue to assess damaged areas and have begun to prepare funding applications to aid recovery efforts. Find a full list of impacted roads below. Contact the Baraga County Road Commission to report damaged roadways or properties at 906 524 7270.
