Dennis C. Heikkila, 76, a resident of Tapiola, passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at UP Health System – Marquette Hospital with his loving wife of 29 years and his children by his side.
He was born on March 29, 1949, in Hancock, a son of the late John and Ida (Myllyla) Heikkila. Dennis was raised in Tapiola and attended the John A. Doelle School before graduating from Houghton High School.
Mr. Heikkila was a veteran, having served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
In 1996, Dennis was united in marriage to Lori Ruska, they had two children and made their home in Tapiola.
Dennis was previously married to Mary Heikkinen, they had three children together before parting ways.
Mr. Heikkila had worked for the Houghton County Road Commission before beginning a career working at Karvakko’s Market in Tapiola as a Butcher and store clerk until his retirement in 2011.
Dennis enjoyed time outdoors hunting and fishing, along with spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are: His wife Lori Heikkila of Tapiola; His children: Jason Heikkila of Tapiola, Jodi Heikkila of Elo, & Nick Heikkila of Tapiola; His grandchildren: Sydney(Tyler),Jadyn(Rhett), Dhane, Dorian(Sammy), Dexter(Lexie) and Ruthie; great-grandchildren, Walker, Sutton, Riley and Lincoln.; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sons Brian and Randy; his parents, brothers and sisters.
Military Honors for Dennis will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 1 p.m. at the Elo Cemetery with the Copper County Veterans Association conducting the Honors, followed by a celebration of life at the Otter Lake Sportsman Club.
