MLB
Tarik Skubal turned in the best game of his storied career yesterday, as the Tigers blanked the Guardians 5-0. The Tigers’ ace allowed just two hits to earn his first complete-game win. He struck out 13, and the last of his 94 pitches crossed the plate at 102.6 miles per hour. That completed a “Maddux,” a complete game shutout with fewer than 100 pitches, named after Hall-of Famer Greg Maddux. Skubal is only the second Tiger to throw one – Keider Montero turned the trick against the Rockies late last season. Skubal’s 13 strikeouts are the most ever recorded in a Maddux.
All of Detroit’s scoring came in the fourth inning, with help from a two-run Zach McKinstry homer.
The Tigers host the Giants today. Montero will start against Hayden Birdsong. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers scored three runs in the eighth inning to claim a 6-5 comeback win over the Pirates yesterday. Caleb Durbin doubled home two runs, then scored on Brice Turang’s two-bagger.
The Brewers host the Red Sox today. Chad Patrick will pitch against Garrett Crochet.
