Memorial Day will keep people on the trails for an extra day over the weekend. From the adventure mine to Copper Harbor the Keweenaw peninsula will fill up with plenty of bikers. The Copper Harbor Trails Club started to Ride the Keweenaw to encourage bikers exploring the region, and check out a trail or two they have not been on. CHTC Executive Director Adam Yeoman says the weekend has been a fun family tradition for many visitors and residents over the years.
And this year we’ve invited back Swede town trails. And their group ride will take place on Friday night as well. And then in addition to all of our other stuff on Saturday, is when we’ll do our women’s focused stuff in Copper Harbor. So, it’s a celebration of international women’s mountain biking. And, as I said, this was the intention of the event, to get people into town early, and give them a reason to check out all of the riding locations in Keweenaw. Because a lot of people know Copper Harbor. But there are other such great riding spots around Keweenaw, so this was intended as a way for people to stop and check those places out, as well. – Adam Yeoman, Executive Director, Copper Harbor Trails Club
There’s still time to register for races or group rides this weekend.
The first riding event, the soke group ride, will start at the adventure mine. The trail will take riders underground and travel through a historic copper mine before ending the ride at the top of Adventure Mountain.
Volunteers interested in supporting Ride the Keweenaw can sign up for positions too. Volunteers help out with registration for events, and timers, and can lead or trail a group during a group ride.
