Michigan State Police and Gogebic Community College partner to introduce students to careers in law enforcement.
Next month the Michigan State Police and Gogebic Community College will host the Law Enforcement Career Academy. The program will introduce students to a variety of career paths within law enforcement.
Over five days at the academy, students will learn patrol techniques, first aid, CPR, defensive tactics, and crime scene investigation, and participate in physical fitness and live scenario drills. The program does have limited capacity. With instruction from MSP Officer Joe Renaud and GCC Criminal Justice Instructor Rebecca Bramlett. All activities will occur within a structured and safe environment.
The program will take place at the Gogebic Community College’s Ironwood campus. Allowing students earlier exploration of a potential educational opportunity beyond high school. Gogebic Community College offers a two-year criminal justice program. The college does offer transferable credits opportunities so students can pursue further criminal justice education at a four-year college. Or enter the workforce with a solid foundation of skills and knowledge. An associate criminal justice degree can lead to students entering their careers as patrol officers, social work, technician, or state trooper.
All students must be 16 years old or older to register for the Law Enforcement Career Academy.
To register or learn more, please contact Trooper Joe Renaud at renaudj@michigan.gov or Rebecca Bramlett, Instructor of Criminal Justice, at rebeccab@gogebic.edu
