The Keweenaw Community Foundation and Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds announce details of the Shine the Light Keweenaw 5 K and Public Safety Day.
In July KCF and KS4HMwill host the Shine the Light Keweenaw 5 K and Public Safety Day at the Mohawk Park in Mohawk. The event in the past has provided opportunities for kids and families in Keweenaw County and northern Houghton County to stay active during the summer and interact with local first responders.
The event’s 5 K race encourages the community to support and raise awareness for mental health causes. All proceeds raised through t-shirt sales and donations will support the Keweenaw Support for Healthy Minds. Race registration is free. Those that sign up early will receive a free Keweenaw 5K T-Shirt while supplies last and will need to register by June 15th. During the event T-shirts will be available, to support KS4HM, for $20.
Race packet pick up on the 12th will start at 9am, and the 5K event starting at 10am. The event also plans to host a Kids Dash for children under eight years old. Public Safety Day with area police, fire fighters, EMS, and search and rescue teams follow the race, and prize drawing happening around noon. Participants in the races can enjoy lunch with volunteers and host organizations, as well as family fun activities.
KCF and KS4HM encourage the community to get involved with Shine the Light. Volunteers are greatly appreciated by organizations, knowing events such as the Shine the Light Keweenaw 5 K and Public Safety Day could not happen without a wonderful community. Volunteering offers opportunities to engage with other residents and support mental health programing in the Copper Country. Those unable to volunteer their time but still want to support Shine the Light Keweenaw 5 K and Public Safety Day in Mohawk can consider sponsoring the event with the Keweenaw Community Foundation and Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds. There are several levels of sponsorship for the events. Those interested in volunteering to help with logistics, set up, clean up, and more should contact Michelle Morgan, ksup4healthyminds@gmail.com.
