Baraga County Road Commission continues to recover around the area following a flash flood last Wednesday night. On Thursday residents woke up to find many roads impassable or damaged by a rush of 3.2 inches of rain during the preceding night’s storm. Recovery efforts began quickly with crews out to begin repairs on Friday.
The Village of Lanse will continue to keep closures on East Falls River Drive at Secret Creek and in the L’anse area, the pequaming road closure remains in effect between Whril-i-Gig Road and Marksman Road.
In the Baraga area, North beartown Road near Keweenaw Bay has been closed indefinitely. Some good news for travel around the region includes passable roadways on Arovon Road and Skanee Road.
Baraga will also reopen the walking trail along the lakefront. Walkers should still use caution when in the area.
The Baraga County Road Commission and Emergency Manager are working in collaboration with local leaders to determine recovery effort strategies and will begin repair work soon.
Anyone with questions or would like to report the site of damaged roads or properties should contact the Baraga County emergency manager Jeff Hubbard at 906 524 7240. Find more details at Keweenaw report dot com.
