Lake Linden-Hubbell has honored its two outstanding senior athletes.
- Emily Jokela is one of the most decorated athletes in Lakes’ history. She was named as Copper Mountain Conference MVP in basketball and softball twice, and in track three times – the first Lake Linden player to earn such an award in three sports. She is the school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball and track. Emily will begin studies toward a health science degree on a track and field scholarship at Grand Valley State this fall.
- Nate St. Onge earned a dozen varsity letters in track, baseball, basketball, golf and football – in which he was named All-Conference and All-U.P. last fall. He’ll play in the U.P. All-Star Game this summer. Nate is headed to Gogebic Community College to pursue a degree in exercise science and physical therapy.
MLB
The Tigers shaded the Blue Jays 3-2 yesterday. Spencer Torkelson provided all of Detroit’s scoring, with a two-run double in the first inning, and an RBI single in the seventh. Jackson Jobe earned his fourth win of the season, allowing two runs over six innings. It was Detroit’s fifth straight one-run game – they won four of them.
The Tigers visit the Cardinals tonight. Keider Montero is the likely starter against Sonny Gray. Coverage will begin at 7:20 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers ended the Twins’ 13-game winning streak with a 5-2 victory yesterday. Freddy Peralta gave up a run on three hits over five innings. Jackson Chourio made a leaping catch at the outfield wall in the eighth inning that prevented a game-tying homer.
The Brewers host the Orioles tonight. Quinn Priester will pitch against Dean Kremer.
Milwaukee sent Tobias Myers back to Nashville yesterday, and brought up pitcher Easton McGee.
NBA
The NBA conference finals are set, following last night’s 125-93 Thunder victory over the Nuggets. Oklahoma City wins that Western Conference semifinal series 4-2.
The Thunder and Timberwolves will begin the Western Conference finals tomorrow. The Pacers and Knicks will commence the Eastern Conference finals Wednesday.
NHL
Likewise, the NHL conference finals are in place after the Panthers routed the Maple Leafs 6-1 in game seven of their Eastern Conference semifinal yesterday.
The Panthers and Hurricanes will open the Eastern Conference finals tomorrow. The Oilers and Stars will begin the Western Conference finals on Wednesday.
