In high school baseball yesterday…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell dropped two to Ontonagon, 11-9 and 9-5.
- L’Anse and Ewen-Trout Creek split their twinbill. The Purple Hornets claimed the opener 20-4. Kale Cichosz had five hits for the Purple Hornets. Daniel Connor had four hits and drove in seven runs. The Panthers took the nightcap 10-6. Each Ewen player in the lineup scored.
In softball…
- Houghton downed the Gogebic Miners 9-3. Ellie Hainault had three hits for the Gremlins, including a double. Romy Mattson homered. Estella Soumis scattered six hits over seven innings to get the win. She also had two hits, including a triple.
- Jeffers split at Ironwood. The Jets scored nine runs on nine hits in the sixth inning of the opener to seal a 16-6 victory. Meg Ruohonen had three hits, including a two-run homer and bases-clearing double. Elli Kuntze also had three hits. In the nightcap, the Red Devils scored six in the third and five in the fifth to grab a 13-1 win. Aila Routsala and Natalie Vandenburg collected two hits apiece for Ironwood.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell swept Ontonagon 21-6 and 12-2. Ashlyn Steves struck out four to get the win in game one, and had a pair of singles and a double. Emily Jokela had a single, and double, and a home run. Alli Corrigan had three hits. Gracie Guzek had a single and a double for the Gladiators. Jokela struck out 13 to earn the win in game two, and hit a double and another home run. Payton Goldsworthy had a single, a double and a homer. Cleo Milkey had two hits.

MLB
The Tigers pulled out their third straight one-run victory last night, shading the Blue Jays 5-4. Riley Greene and Zach McKinstry homered early. Javier Báez’ solo shot in the top of the eighth proved to be the game-winner. Jack Flaherty pitched into the sixth inning, allowing two runs and striking out six.
The Tigers visit the Blue Jays again this afternoon. Reese Olson will start for Detroit. Coverage will begin at 2:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Former Tigers pitcher Kenta Maeda has signed a minor-league deal with the Chicago Cubs. Detroit cut Maeda on May 1st, as he continued to struggle after signing a big two-year free agent contract before the start of last season.
The Brewers suffered their third shutout in their last four games, falling 3-0 to the Twins. Milwaukee batters collected just five hits.
The Brewers host the Twins again tonight. Tobias Myers will start against Pablo López.
Reliever Rob Zastryzny is back with the Brewers. Milwaukee purchased his contract from the Yankees yesterday and added him to their major league roster. Reliever Elvis Peguero was sent back to Nashville to make room.

- The Knicks advanced to the Eastern Conference final by smothering the Celtics 119-81. New York wins that conference semifinal series 4-2.

- The Maple Leafs blanked the Panthers 2-0. That Eastern Conference semifinal series is tied 3-3.
