High School
In high school baseball yesterday…
- Houghton fell to Kingsford 12-0. The Flivvers put the game away early, scoring nine runs in the first inning. The Gremlins were held to just two hits.
- Hancock and Calumet split their doubleheader. The Bulldogs claimed the opener 4-3, scoring the winning run on an error in the bottom of the sixth. Chase Keranen had two hits, and turned in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Liam Pomroy had a double for the Copper Kings, and Charlie Halonen hit a triple. The Kings turned the tables with an 8-7 win in the nightcap. Lyle Lasanen singled home the winning run in the top of the seventh. Charlie Halonen and Darin Berg each had three hits for Calumet. Chase Keranen had two for Hancock.
- Jeffers and Ironwood split their twinbill, with the Jets taking game one 12-2, and the Red Devils claiming game two 4-3.
In softball…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell swept Jeffers 10-0 and 20-0. Emily Jokela struck out 10 in the opener, and hit a pair of triples. Alli Corrigan had two hits. Payton Goldsworthy struck out eight in the nightcap, and hit a double, a triple and a home run. Jokela had a single, a triple, and a grand slam. Meg Ruohonen had a single and a double for the Jets.
At the UP Division One Track and Field Regional at Houghton yesterday…
- The Gremlins claimed the boys title, with Calumet fourth. Houghton’s Luke Hill claimed the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs. Calumet’s Matthew Frantti won the shot put and the discus throw.
- Houghton finished second to Negaunee on the women’s side, with Calumet third. Tessa Rautiola from Houghton took the 1600 and 3200-meter runs. Allison Bjorn of the Copper Kings won the shot put and the discus throw. Houghton’s Amy Sziber qualified for the U.P. championship meet in four adaptive events.

At the Division Three Regional at Baraga…
- Forest Park took the men’s team title, with Baraga third and L’Anse fourth. Connor Kemppainen of the Purple Hornets won the 110 and 300-meter hurdles.
- Stephenson won the girls side, with Forest Park second, L’Anse fourth, and Baraga sixth. Elisa Delene of the Vikings won the pole vault, and Lanse’s Breyelle Bowers took the long jump.

Local golf teams competed at the Youngs Invitational in Iron River yesterday. Ontonagon took the girls title. Madyson Pantti of the Gladiators medaled with an 89. Hancock won the boys side, led by Jackson Sintkowski’s 79. Negaunee’s Kody Baer medaled with a 76. See full results for boys and girls.

The Tigers had yesterday off, and visit the Blue Jays tonight. Jack Flaherty will pitch against Bowden Francis. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers also had yesterday off, and welcome the Twins tonight. Chad Patrick will start against Joe Ryan.
Milwaukee added some outfield depth by signing veteran Eddie Rosario to a minor league contract. The Brewers lost infielder Vinny Capra when the White Sox claimed him off waivers.
