Off-roading in the Copper Country has two major seasons. All-terrain and side-by-side traverse the trails in the summer. And when the snow packs on top, snowmobiles echo around the region. Across the region, many families enjoy off-road vehicle recreation and want to share the fun hobby with the next generation.
Last week MI TRALE hosted its 9th annual hands-on youth ORV training at Camp Nesbit. The program included 39 6th-grade students from Ewen Trout Creek School, Ontonagon Area schools, and Watersmeet schools, for a hands-on training program that teaches youth how to ride right, and safely travel around the region’s backcountry ORV trails. Camp Nesbit, nestled in the Ottawa National Forest, offers the program ample opportunities for kids to learn how to safely drive an ATV or side-by-side vehicle. At the end of the program, students receive a Certified to Ride Safety Certificate.
MI TRALE has used the program for nearly a decade to increase off-road safety, and educational opportunities in the Copper Country, and connect with the next generation of all-terrain hobbyists. Learn more about MI-TRALE here.
