UPDATE: A Mass of Christian Burial for Josie Ruska, 85, a resident of Chassell who passed away on December 28, 2024, will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Chassell with Fr. Ben Hasse officiating. Burial will take place at a later time in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Friends may call on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Chassell Chapel from 5 – 7 pm.
Josette M. Ruska (nee Moore), 85, a resident of Broemer Rd., Chassell, passed away Saturday December 28, 2024, at home after a short battle with cancer.
She was born in Milwaukee, WI to Robert Carleton and Blanche Moore. Josie was a graduate with the class of 1957 of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School and attended various colleges throughout her life.
On August 1, 1959, she was united in marriage to Arthur Ruska.
Josie worked for the City of Milwaukee in many roles including in The Comptroller’s Office and The License Division retiring in 2005. Josie volunteered extensively over the years from Boy Scout Den Mother, 4-H Leader and President of the Community Club at Maple Tree Elementary School for long after her kids graduated, to Portage Hospital Auxiliary and President of the Altar Society at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Chassell.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and 3 sisters.
Surviving are her children: Denise Ruska (Paul) Stone of Chassell, Robert (Barbara) Ruska of Milwaukee, WI, Tracy Ruska of Sussex, WI and 4 grandchildren: Robert Ruska Jr., Tabatha (Timothy) Zietz, James Ruska and Sebastian Ruska. Also surviving are her 3 brothers: J. Andre’ Moore, J. Christopher Moore, and Martin Moore; 1 sister: Annie Kappel and her best friend/cousin: JoAnne Van Den Kieboom as well as nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial Mass for Josie will be held later this spring at St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell.
In lieu of memorials, Josie would have loved if you would adopt a senior pet and give them love in their final years. Imagine all of the dogs/cats and people waiting for her at the gates of heaven. Josie will be remembered through her recipes, her volunteer work and her love of life.
