Across the state, many birds have begun returning to the Great Lakes region. A true sign spring has started in the Michigan.
Next week the Michigan DNR will host a birding tour at the Portage Marsh in Escanaba. On the shores of Lake Michigan, the Portage Marsh includes a narrow peninsula.
Visitors joining DNR officials will meet at the Portage Point 11.4 lane, for a 1-mile loop hike to search out birds returning to the area, including herons, terns, and gulls.
In March the Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch group was able to set up its shed with the help of Copper Harbor Trails Club and community members.
