
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Western Upper Peninsula earned the platinum award of Excellence in 2024. Recently the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Nationwide Leadership Council selected the western Upper Peninsula’s chapter for the 2024 Platinum Award. The coal program is one of 17 organizations earning a platinum award from the BBBSA, out of more than 230 agencies across the country. Western UP agency director Maggie Munch says this recognition reflects the dedication of local staff and volunteers to create mentorship opportunities that connect adults and youth in the Copper Country. In the past year, the program has grown to include more than 244 children and 173 high school students.
