In high school baseball yesterday…
- Jeffers earned two close wins over Calumet – 2-0 and 3-2.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell v Hancock – no report.
- L’Anse and Ontonagon split a doubleheader, with the Gladiators taking game one 11-2, and the Purple Hornets claiming game two 15-6.
In softball…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell took two close games from Hancock. Emily Jokela struck out 12 as the Lakes took the opener 2-1. Cleo Milkey had three hits, and Payton Goldsworthy drew four walks for Lake Linden. Sofie Freeman had a double and a triple for the Bulldogs. Goldsworthy struck out six, and hit a triple as the Lakes claimed the nightcap 9-6. Alli Corrigan had three singles for Lake Linden, and Lissa Johnson had two. Sadie Biekkola had a couple of singles for the Bulldogs.
- Forest Park claimed two lopsided wins over North Dickinson, 12-2 and 16-6.
The Houghton girls soccer team blanked Grayling 4-0 yesterday. Cheyenne Laplander, Sophia Blake, Cecilia Butler, and Aila Weeks scored for the Gremlins.
Houghton won the boys team title at yesterday’s Baraga Invitational golf tourney. Hancock finished second, followed by Jeffers, Calumet, Baraga Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Ontonagon, Ironwood and Lake Linden-Hubbell. Benton Rajala medaled with a 38 in the nine hole event. Connor Arko and Jack Sayen each finished one stroke back.
The girls team title went to Ontonagon. Hancock finished second, followed by Jeffers, Calumet and Houghton. Maretta Kangas of the Copper Kings medaled with a 49, two strokes better than Ontonagon’s Olivia Lockhart.

The Tigers salvaged one game from their series against the Astros with a 7-4 victory yesterday afternoon. Javier Báez hit a grand slam, and Colt Keith added a two-run shot. Jackson Jobe pitched into the fifth, and was charged with three runs. Brenan Hanifee got the win, with two innings of scoreless relief.
The Tigers open a series against the Angels tonight in Anaheim. Casey Mize will pitch against Yusei Kikuchi. Because of Pistons basketball, coverage will begin at 9:10 on KBear 102.3.
Beau Brieske struck out two in a perfect inning in a rehab appearance for the West Michigan Whitecaps last night. He could rejoin the Tigers as early as Saturday.
The Brewers scored three late runs, and held off the White Sox 6-4 last night. Jake Bauers’ two-run double in the eighth inning was the big blow.
That series concludes in Chicago this afternoon. Chad Patrick will start against Sean Burke.
Brandon Woodruff threw 74 pitches in a rehab start with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers last night. He’s scheduled to make another start for the Nashville Sounds. If that goes well, he could rejoin the Brewers, after missing a year recovering from major shoulder surgery.

In NBA Western Conference quarterfinals last night…
- The Rockets outscored the Warriors 131-116. Golden State leads that series 3-2.
- The Timberwolves dispatched the Lakers 103-96. Minnesota wins that series 4-1.

- The Pistons host the Knicks in another must-win game. New York leads that series 3-2. Coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

- The Clippers entertain the Nuggets. Denver is up 3-2 in that set.

- The Capitals shut down the Canadiens 4-1. Washington advances with a 4-1 series win.
- The Panthers dispatched the Lightning 6-3. Florida wins that series 4-1.
