All of yesterday’s high school sports activities were canceled. It will likely be next week before fields dry out enough to begin baseball and softball competition locally.
NHL
The Red Wings skate at New Jersey tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The NBA’s Play-In tournament began last evening, with eight teams vying for the final two berths in the regular playoffs.
- In the Eastern Conference, the Magic eliminated the Hawks 120-95.
- In the Western Conference, Warriors dispatched the Grizzlies 121-116.

- In the Eastern Conference, the Bulls host the Heat.
- In the Western Conference, the Mavericks visit the Kings.
The winners of tonight’s games will play the winners of last night’s contests Friday, to determine which teams will get the eighth seed in the regular tournament.
Pistons Hall-of-Famer Joe Dumars appears to be headed to New Orleans. There are reports that he’ll be named the Pelicans’ Vice President of Basketball Operations. He’s currently Vice President of Basketball Operations for the NBA. Dumars is a Louisiana native, and played college ball at at McNeese State. He led Detroit to two NBA championships as a player, and one more as the Pistons’ president of basketball operations.
MLB
The Tigers managed just one hit last night in a 5-0 loss to the Brewers. Quinn Priester earned his first Milwaukee win, giving up just a Gleyber Torres double over five innings. Four Milwaukee relievers pitched hitless ball the rest of the way. Detroit starter Jack Flaherty took the loss, allowing three runs before leaving in the fifth inning. Brenan Hanifee surrendered the Crew’s other two runs in the seventh. Rhys Hoskins hit his first home run of the year.
The Tigers conclude that series at Milwaukee this afternoon. Keider Montero will pitch against Jose Quintana. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Hanifee was optioned down to Toledo after the game, to make room for Montero on the roster. With the Tigers playing 23 games in 24 days, Montero’s start today will give the regular starters an extra day of rest.
The Brewers sent reliever Elvin Rodriguez down to Nashville yesterday, and called up Logan Henderson. Henderson has been a starter in the minor leagues, but is expected to work out of the bullpen for the time being.
