High School
The Houghton girls soccer team fell 4-1 at Kingsford yesterday. Cheyenne Laplander scored, with an assist from Aila Week. Coach Madison Mattila noted that it was the first time the team has seen grass this spring.
All of the rest of yesterday’s baseball and softball games were weathered out.
All of today’s baseball and softball games, along with the Marquette Relays, have been called off.
NHL
The Red Wings outscored the Stars 6-4 last night in their final home game of the season. Albert Johansson, Alex DeBrincat, Jonatan Berggren and Moritz Seider scored… Lucas Raymond netted the eventual game-winner midway through the third period… and Vladimir Tarasenko added a late empty-netter. Cam Talbot made 24 saves.
The Wings skate at New Jersey tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The NBA Play-In Tournament begins tonight, with four teams in each conference involved. Tonight…
- In the Eastern Conference, the Hawks face the Magic.
- In the Western Conference, the Grizzlies take on the Warriors.
The other four teams will meet tomorrow night. The four winners will play on Friday, with the winners claiming the eighth seed in each conference for the full tournament.
MLB
The Tigers blasted the Brewers 9-1 last night. Tarik Skubal struck out nine over seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Kerry Carpenter homered. Gleyber Torres drove in three runs and scored twice. Milwaukee’s only run came off Kenta Maeda in the ninth inning. Tyler Alexander took the loss for the Brewers, allowing eight runs over four innings.
The Tigers continue that series at Milwaukee tonight. Jack Flaherty will pitch against Quinn Priester. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Help may be on the way for Milwaukee’s injury-riddled starting rotation. Brandon Woodruff felt good after his first rehab start last week, and will make another start at Triple-A Nashville Thursday. He missed all of last season following major shoulder surgery. Tobias Myers will make a rehab start for the Sounds Friday. He’s recovering from an oblique problem.
