MLB
The Tigers’ five-game win streak ended yesterday with a 4-3 loss to the Yankees. Jack Flaherty pitched shutout ball into the sixth, and left having allowed just three hits, while striking out nine. New York scored two off Tyler Holton in the seventh, and two more off John Brebbia in the ninth. All of Detroit’s runs came with two outs in the bottom of the ninth – one on a wild pitch, and two on a single by Zach McKinstry – but Justyn-Henry Malloy’s pop fly to shallow center field ended the rally.
The Tigers have today off, and open a series at Minnesota tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
There’s more bad injury news for the Tigers. Catcher Jake Rogers will miss at least a month with his ailing left oblique. Wenceel Pérez, who is dealing with back pain, has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.
The Brewers walloped the Rockies 17-2 last night. Milwaukee scored five in the third, five in the fifth, and piled on seven more runs in the top of the ninth. Jackson Chourio hit a homer and drove in five runs. Christian Yelich and William Contreras also went deep. Spot starter Tyler Alexander pitched into the fourth, and gave up both Colorado runs.
The Brewers conclude that set at Colorado this afternoon. Quinn Priester will make his first start for Milwaukee, against Ryan Feltner.
