
The American Society of Civil Engineers will arrive in Houghton later this week for the Eastern Great Lakes ASCE Student Symposium. The symposium will bring 16 universities to the Copper Country and compete in a hands-on civil and environmental engineering challenge.
Student teams will participate in concrete canoe races on Friday and compete in a steel bridge competition on Saturday. Michigan Technological University and the American Society of Civil Engineers have a long connected history, including partnering to launch the Steel Bridge program in 1987. Last year at the symposium Michigan Tech’s students set a new record in the Timber Strong competition, and have consistently ranked in the top 10 at symposiums.
The American Society of Civil Engineers Eastern Great Lakes Region student symposium will start on Thursday with teams arriving in town. Friday competitions will begin at noon with the concrete canoe races at Kestner Waterfront Park.
