Students will take center stage the next couple of weekends as the Rozsa Center closes out the entertainment season. Today, the Jazz Band will lead the way by starting the annual Don Keranen Jazz Festival at McArdle Theater. At the same time, Nich Radcliffe and theater performers prepare for a student production of Sweeny Todd next week. Radcliffe says it’s been wonderful to see students take opportunities to express creativity and run with it.
Seeing all of this activity taking place in these last few weeks and DK is one of those, the Keranan event is one of those things. It’s super, super exciting. It brings a lot of folks to our campus. Creates a lot of unique opportunities for students. That’s what you want. It doesn’t matter, I don’t think we have a music major, but it doesn’t matter. What you need is opportunity. I don’t currently have a performance major here. We don’t need it. What we need is opportunity. – Nich Radcliffe, Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor, Michigan Tech Department of Visual and Performing Arts
This weekend jazz band students will lead shows throughout Friday and Saturday for the Don Keranen Jazz Festival. Tomorrow’s shows will include Jazz Director Adam Meckler leading middle school and high school students as a part of the concert.
Next week the visual and performing arts department will roll out set pieces and show off musical talents while on the Rozsa’s stage for Sweeny Todd. The show will include Radcliffe’s largest cast since arriving at the University, with music during the performance led by the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra.
