High School
The Ewen-Trout Creek girls basketball team will play for a state title tomorrow. The Panthers overcame a three-point halftime deficit, and dispatched Concord 34-24 in their semifinal contest yesterday. Ewen put the game away by shutting down the Yellowjackets 9-1 in the fourth quarter. Bree Besonen led the Panthers with 15 points. Irelynd McGeshick grabbed 15 rebounds, and added eight points.
The Panthers (27-1) will face Fowler (26-2) for the Division Four title tomorrow morning at 10:00. The Eagles eliminated Genesee Christian 57-32.
Calumet’s fine season ended with a 43-38 loss to Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest. The Copper Kings started slowly, trailing 13-4 at the end of the first quarter, and 30-16 at halftime. They found their game after the break, and narrowed the gap to just four points in the closing minutes, but the comeback fell short. Jess Anderson led Calumet with 10 points. Jackie Kiilunen, Bailey Strom and Millie Loukus each added eight. The Kings conclude their season with a record of 22-6.
The Crusaders will face Ypsilanti Arbor Prep for the Division Three title tomorrow at 4:00. The Gators shaded previously unbeaten Niles Brandywine 31-29. Angela Meggisson sank two free throws with two seconds remaining to secure the win.
The second set of semifinals will be played today.
In Division One, Belleville (26-1) will face West Bloomfield (19-8) at noon, and Wayne Memorial (21-6) will play Rockford (26-1) at 2:00
In Division Two, Frankenmuth (23-4) meets Tecumseh (25-1) at 5:30, and Grand Rapids West Catholic (23-3) takes on Detroit Edison PSA (19-6) at 7:30.
For the record, the Calumet girls team, after hosting their district contests, played at Escanaba, Newberry, Manistique, and then East Lansing, traveling 1,848 miles. You can still donate to support their trip here.
Great Lakes Hockey League
The Portage Lake Pioneers edged the Calumet Wolverines 2-1 last night.
The Wolverines wrap up their regular-season schedule against the Dane County Dairy Kings tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
The Pioneers conclude their regular campaign against the Dairy Kings tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Dee.

The Pistons visit the Mavericks tonight. Coverage will begin at 8:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks routed the Lakers 118-89 last night. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 28.
The Bucks visit the Kings tomorrow night.
MLB
The Tigers had yesterday off, and split their squad for games against the Yankees and Orioles today. In the Baltimore game, Tarik Skubal will start against Albert Suárez. In the New York contest, Keider Montero will pitch against Carlos Rodón.
The Brewers also had yesterday off, and face the Diamondbacks tonight. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Corbin Burnes.
