In 2023 students across the state began to have the option to eat breakfast and lunch at school. The free school meals program has been a huge help to many families struggling to make ends meet. By offering kids a plate at lunch or a bowl at breakfast students go to class ready to learn. Alongside the meals during the year the state expanded summer meals programs to capture kids left feeling famished after schools close for the academic year.
Meet Up and Eat Up works with school districts and helps feed students while school’s out. Recently the program opened applications for the annual meals program. Families that qualify for SNAP or other food assistance programs will not need to register for Sun Bucks with Meet Up and Eat Up. Michigan encourages families not already enrolled in food assistance benefit programs to register for the program.
Sun Bucks will provide families with 120 dollars per child to purchase qualifying groceries. The Sun Bucks program is a continuation of the Michigan Summer EBT program under a new name. Families that need to register for the program can find more information online here.
