Happy birthday Calumet. In 2025 the village celebrates 150 years of history and heritage. Today marks Calumet’s official start to its celebrations throughout the year. From 3 to 6 pm today residents and visitors can stop by the Calumet Theatre for an open house inside the Village Hall. After a brief pause in the fun, Calumet will pick back up the 150-year celebration in August during the Caluemt Cro Festival. Then in September Calumet will host the grand 150th celebration. Then to close out the year Calumet hosts the Red Jacket Ball. Calumet has lots of history hidden within the buildings, spaces, trails, and streets calling visitors to the small town each year. Its earliest days saw the rise of Copper mining in the Keweenaw Peninsula. To today, where the village welcomes visitors from around the country and midwest, inviting people to discover the incredible community. Village of Calumet Celebrates 150 Years of History and Heritage
Calumet, MI – The Village of Calumet, formerly known as Red Jacket, is proud to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025 with a year filled with special events, honoring our rich history, diverse heritage, and strong community spirit.
Kicking Off the Celebration – March 19, 2025
The official anniversary celebration begins on March 19, 2025, marking 150 years since Calumet’s incorporation. To commemorate the occasion, the Village will host an Open House at Village Hall from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, where community members are invited to enjoy cake and coffee as we reflect on Calumet’s storied past.
A Summer of Celebration
- Calumet Cro Fest (August 9-10, 2025)
Kicking off the summer festivities, Calumet Cro Fest will celebrate the region’s Slavic heritage with a weekend of music, dance, Croatian food, and drink at the newly developed Greenspace Park. The weekend will culminate with a special performance by The Tamburitzans at the historic Calumet Theatre.
- Pasty Fest & Keweenaw Kernewek (August 15-16, 2025)
The following weekend, Pasty Fest returns, celebrating Cornish culture and Calumet’s mining heritage. As part of the event, we will hold a rededication ceremony for the sign marking our status as a sister city to Camborne, Cornwall, UK—a tribute to the deep ties between the Keweenaw and Cornwall.
The Grand 150th Celebration – September 12-13, 2025
The biggest event of the year will take place the weekend of September 12-13, featuring:
- Friday Night Festivities at Village Hall and Calumet Theatre, showcasing history, speakers, and community reflections.
- 6th Street Block Party (Saturday, September 13) with live music, walking tours, games, historical displays, and plenty of great food and drinks, bringing the community together in a celebration of our shared past and bright future.
Closing the Year in Style – Red Jacket Ball (December 13, 2025)
To cap off this historic year, we invite the community to the Red Jacket Ball on December 13, a formal gala encouraging 1900s-era attire for an elegant evening of music, dancing, and celebration.
