At the end of February, Michigan guaranteed sick leave for all workers in the state. To help businesses navigate new wage and sick leave policies the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity recently updated its FAQ webpage to include information for the Earned Sick Time Act.
All employers will need to comply with new state laws. There is a temporary delay for employers that did not employ more than two workers before February 22nd, 2022. Such as if an employer hired two workers in October 2024, small businesses just starting will not need to comply for three years, and those employees will begin to accrue sick time in 2027.
All employees across the state qualify for the Earned Sick Time Act.
Michigan LEO also includes information for employers in Michigan that have work contracted outside of the state. Links online include information for the required poster employers will need to post in the workplace.
