The boys high school basketball season ended with the state championship games Saturday:
- Division Four – Wyoming Tri-unity Christian 49, Fowler 32
- Division Three – Riverview Gabriel Richard 79, Arts and Tech Academy of Pontiac 63
- Division Two – Warren Lincoln 58, Romulus Summit Academy North 51
- Division One – East Lansing 66, Wayne Memorial 46
College Basketball
In the opening round of the NCAA Division II men’s basketball tournament yesterday, Michigan Tech avenged its loss to Northern Michigan University in the GLIAC playoffs with an 87-72 victory over the Wildcats. Marcus Tomashek and Pete Calcaterra each scored 22 for the Huskies. Dylan Kuehl netted 20 for NMU.
The MTU men will face Lake Superior State today at 6 in Springfield, Illinois, for the right to advance to the round of 16. The Lakers claimed a 76-64 victory over Lincoln in their opening-round game Saturday.
In other games involving GLIAC teams, Ferris State’s late comeback fell just short in an 81-79 loss to Missouri-St. Louis.
The NMU women’s team ended its tournament run with a 68-45 loss to Ashland in the round of 32 yesterday.
In other games involving GLIAC teams, Grand Valley dispatched Wayne State 87-54. The Lakers will host Ashland tomorrow at 7 in the Midwest regional championship game.
College Hockey
Saint Thomas and Minnesota State will play for the Mason Cup, following victories in the CCHA semifinals Saturday. The Tommies dispatched Bowling Green 3-1. The Mavericks ousted Bemidji State 4-0. The title game will be played Friday in Mankato.
NHL
The fading Red Wings have lost seven of their last eight games, and will host the Golden Knights this afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons dropped a 113-107 decision to the Thunder Saturday night. Tobias Harris led Detroit with 18 points.
The Pistons visit the Pelicans tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks claimed a 126-119 win over the Pacers Saturday. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Bucks entertain the Thunder tonight.
MLB
The Tigers and Phillies battled to a 2-2 tie Saturday. Both of Detroit’s runs came in the first inning, on a double by Colt Keith. Tarik Skubal gave up two runs over five innings.
The Tigers face the Orioles today. Jack Flaherty will start against Albert Suárez.
The latest round of roster cuts included outfielders Akil Baddoo and Bligh Madris, and catcher Brian Serven, who have been assigned to minor league camp.
Half of the Brewers defeated half of the Angels 8-0 Saturday. Freddy Peralta pitched shutout ball into the sixth. The other half of the Crews blanked the Angels 4-0. Starter Tobias Myers left the game in the second inning with left oblique discomfort. He’ll be examined today.
The Brewers face the Guardians today. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Ben Lively.
