After a particularly severe instance of illegal dumping, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Natural Resources Department condemned the action publicly. KBIC Natural Resource officials posted photos of garbage bags and small plastic bags filled with trash spilling out and scattered on the forest floor and near the roadside in a patch of snow. Both littering and illegal dumping are against the law and cause harm to the environment. The department emphasized there is a difference, adding that both actions can harm water quality, wildlife, fish habitats, and the land where the tribe members gather berries, medicines, and food. Report illegal dumping to the Keweenaw Bayi Indian community natural resource department by calling 906-524-5757, extension 4228.
