All of last night’s district tournament girls semifinal basketball games were wiped out by the blizzard. All those games will be made up tonight…
- In Division Two – Negaunee plays at Escanaba; Houghton plays at Gladstone at 6:00, with coverage beginning at 5:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
- In Division Three – Ishpeming plays at Westwood; Jeffers plays at Calumet at 5:30, with coverage beginning at 5:10 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
- In Division Four, District 98 – Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at L’Anse at 6:00; Hancock plays at Baraga at 6:00.
- In Division Four, District 97 tonight at Wakefield-Marenisco High School – Ewen-Trout Creek faces Bessemer at 5:30; Ontonagon takes on the host Cardinals at 7:00.
- In Division Four, District 99 – Norway plays at Forest Park; Stephenson plays at North Dickinson.
Each girls district final will be played tomorrow night.
In boys basketball regional semifinals tonight…
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City will face Bessemer at 6:00 at Houghton High School. The winner will face Forest Park Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at Lakeview Gym in Negaunee.
College Basketball
In the opening round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournament last night…
- The 20th-ranked Michigan Tech men’s team blasted Roosevelt 84-65. A balanced Huskies attack was led by Marcus Tomashek with 17 points, and Ty Fernholz with 16.
- The Northern Michigan men’s team rode a strong first half to an 85-72 victory over Grand Valley. Jackson Dudek scored 17.
As the top seed in the tournament, the Huskies will host the semifinals and championship game this weekend. Tech will face Northern in the first semifinal Saturday at noon. Lake Superior State will take on Ferris State in the second semifinal at 2:30. The title game will be played Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
- The Tech women’s team ended its season with a 60-47 loss at second-ranked Grand Valley. Isabella Lenz scored 15. The Huskies conclude their campaign with a record of 12-17.
- The NMU women’s team blew out Saginaw Valley State 81-60, powered by Jacy Weisbrod’s 27 points.
Grand Valley will host the semifinals and championship game this weekend. The host Lakers will face Wayne State in the first semifinal Saturday at 2:00. Northern will take on Ferris State at 4:30. The title game will be played Sunday afternoon at 3:00.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Utah Hockey Club tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons lost to the Clippers 123-115 last night.Cade Cunningham had 37 points and 10 assists.
The Pistons visit the Warriors tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 8:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks cruised past the Mavericks 137-107. Damien Lillard scored 34. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 32 points and 15 rebounds, and passed the 20,000 point mark for his career. Beset by injuries, Dallas only dressed eight players for the game.
Milwaukee hosts the Magic Saturday.
MLB
The Tigers bombed the Phillies 17-7 yesterday. Reese Olson tossed three scoreless innings, and left with a 12-run lead. Jahmai Jones hit a grand slam. Andy Ibáñez, Gleyber Torres and Tomás Nido also homered.
The Tigers take today off, and face the Orioles tomorrow.
Half of the Brewers defeated half of the White Sox 3-2 yesterday. Andruw Monasterio homered. Tobias Myers turned in three shutout innings.
The other half of the Brewers lost to the other half of the White Sox 8-2.Freddy Peralta threw three shutout innings. Chicago scored all their runs in the eighth inning.
The Brewers take on the Athletics tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will start against Jeffrey Springs.
