In opening-round girls basketball tournament play last night…
- Division Four, District 98 – Lake Linden-Hubbell dispatched Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 70-39. Emily Jokela led all scorers with 36 points. The Lakes will play at L’Anse tomorrow at 6. Hancock shut down Chassell 48-25. The Bulldogs will play at Baraga tomorrow at 6.
- Division Four, District 99 – Stephenson defeated Carney-Nadeau 60-40. The Eagles will play at North Dickinson tomorrow. Forest Park downed North Central 47-32. The Trojans will host Norway tomorrow.
- Division Four, District 97 – at Wakefield-Marenisco – Bessemer ousted Watersmeet 65-29. The Speedgirls will face Ewen-Trout Creek tomorrow at 5:30. Ontonagon will face Wakefield-Marenisco at 7. Both games will be played at Wakefield High School.
- Division Three, District 65 – Westwood eliminated West Iron County 45-23. The Patriots will host Ishpeming tomorrow at 6. Jeffers got past Ironwood 56-53. Taylor Heinonen led the Jets with 19 points. Hannah Vaughn scored 24 for the Red Devils. The Jets will play at Calumet tomorrow at 6. Coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
- Division Two, District 33 – Escanaba defeated Kingsford 56-34. The Eskymoes will host Negaunee tomorrow at 6. Houghton will play at Gladstone tomorrow. Coverage will begin around 5:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
In boys regional semifinals tonight…
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City faces Bessemer at Houghton High School. The start time for that game was originally posted on the MHSAA website as 7:00. It will, in fact, start at 6:00.
- Forest Park faces North Dickinson at Kingsford High School.

The Jeffers Athletic Department continues to collect donations for help to pay for the hockey team’s trip downstate. You donate at their GoFundMe page, or drop a donation off at the school. The Jets will face Cranbrook Kingswood in the state tournament semifinals Friday.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Hurricanes tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons routed the Jazz 134-106 last night. All five starters reached double figures, led by Cade Cunningham with 29 points. Jalen Duren collected another double-double, with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pistons have won 10 of their last 11, and visit the Clippers tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 10:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Hawks tonight.
MLB
Tarik Skubal tossed three scoreless innings, but the Tigers lost to the Blue Jays 13-3 yesterday. Jason Foley relieved him in the fourth inning, got only one out, was charged with three runs on four hits, and took the loss. Javier Báez collected his first hit of the spring, as he attempts to come back from hip surgery last August.
The Tigers face the Rays today. Kenta Maeda will start against Connor Seabold. Coverage will begin at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers couldn’t hold an early lead, and fell 5-4 to the Reds last night. Caleb Durbin and Vinny Capra homered. Starter Aaron Ashby left in the first inning with what is believed to be a lat injury. He’ll be examined today.
Milwaukee will take today off, then split their squad for two games against the White Sox tomorrow.
Milwaukee has reportedly signed a deal with veteran starting pitcher José Quintana. Quintana went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA in 31 starts for the Mets last season. It’s a one-year contract.
