On the opening night of the boys high school basketball tournament…
In Division Four, District 98 – Chassell dispatched Lake Linden-Hubbell 55-39. The Panthers will play at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City tomorrow at 6. L’Anse eliminated Hancock 70-52. The Purple Hornets will play at Baraga tomorrow at 6.
- In Division Four, District 97 – Watersmeet eliminated Ontonagon 76-72. The Nimrods will face Wakefield-Marenisco in a semifinal tomorrow at 7 at Ontonagon. Ewen-Trout Creek and Bessemer will meet in the other semifinal tomorrow at 5:30 at Ontonagon.
- Division Four, District 100 – Stevenson got past Hannahville Nah Tah Wahsh 68-64. The Eagles will play at Forest Park tomorrow. North Central dispatched Carney-Nadeau 63-58. The Jets will play at Norway tomorrow.
- Division Three, District 65 – Jeffers fell to Ishpeming 68-48. The Hematites will play at Ironwood tomorrow. Calumet overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to edge West Iron County 39-38. Gavin Sturos scored 17 for the Copper Kings. Seth Oberlin netted 13 for the Wykons. Calumet will play at Westwood tomorrow night. - In Division Two, District 33 – Gladstone shaded Escanaba 52-47. The Braves will host Kingsford tomorrow. Houghton will entertain Negaunee in the other semifinal tomorrow, with coverage at 5:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.

The Houghton boys Alpine ski team finished sixth at the Division Two state high school finals yesterday at Boyne Highlands. Eli Heathman placed fourth in the slalom, and 23rd in the giant slalom. Rachel Sun, who qualified individually for the girls meet, finished 36th in the slalom and 55th in the giant slalom. See full results here.
College Basketball
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team flew past Roosevelt University 90-52 last night. Sarah Newcomer scored 20 for the Wildcats.
The NMU men’s team pulled out a 75-68 victory over the Lakers. Dylan Kuehl netted 23.
NBA
The Pistons won their seventh straight game last night, 106-97 over the Clippers. Cade Cunningham scored 32 points. Jalen Duren scored 12, and grabbed 19 rebounds.
The Pistons host the Celtics tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Rockets tonight.
NHL
The Red Wings visit the Wild tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit has sent goaltender Ville Husso to the Anaheim Ducks, in exchange for future considerations. Husso is in the final year of a three-year, $14.25 million contract. He struggled with the Wings, and has spent most of this season with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
MLB
The Tigers and Blue Jays were rained out yesterday.
The Tigers face the Orioles this afternoon. Jackson Jobe will start against Charlie Morton.
Reliever Andrew Chafin is back with the Tigers. This will be his third stint in Detroit. The last one ended when he was traded to the Rangers last summer. He returns on a minor league deal.
The Brewers lost to the Mariners 12-8 yesterday. Seattle scored 11 runs from the sixth inning on. Rhys Hoskins and Oliver Dunn homered for the Crew.
The Brewers play the Guardians this afternoon. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Luis L. Ortiz.
