
Michigan’s statewide high school graduation rate reached a record high last year.
Data compiled by the Michigan Center for Educational Performance and Information shows the 4-year graduation rate for 2023-24 was 82.83 percent – a 1.06 percentage point increase from the previous year.
The four-year dropout rate dropped 0.45 percent, to 7.68 percent.
The graduation rates for those who spend five and six years in high school also increased slightly.
Four-year graduation rates across the Western U.P. varied widely, but most schools fared well. Chassell and Watersmeet High Schools scored the best, graduating all of their students from the class of 2024. West Iron County graduated 99.1 percent. Houghton High School graduated 97.2 percent. Hancock, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Lake Linden-Hubbell, L’Anse, Ontonagon, Bessemer. Wakefield-Marenisco, West Iron County and Forest Park also graduated 90 percent or more of their four-year students.
Baraga High School had the weakest four-year graduation rate, at 69.4 percent.
