Lake Linden - Hubbell Bands will lead a benefit concert supporting a neighboring community.
The Copper Country comes together to support each other’s communities. Tomorrow evening Lake Linden – Hubbell schools will host a benefit concert to help the village of Laurium recover after a fire that destroyed the DPW garage.
I found out about the fire from a student whose parent was in the fire department. And I think that when in a time of crisis, it’s important to think about, what, what do you have to offer or what kind of position are you in to do something? So the stars just kind of aligned and I’m in a position where I have great students. And a great school district and our community that surrounds us is so very supporting. We saw that with the Father’s Day flood. We saw so many people come together in 2018 from all over the place and help out. So I just knew that even though it was last minute it’s something that I could do as a Director of bands and it’s something that I knew that the community could pull together Even though it was last minute – Micah Erickson, Music Department Director, Lake Linden Hubbell Schools
Lake Linden Hubbell music department director Micah Erickson says the concert was quickly organized. And the concert added a few friends to join on stage in the past week. The concert will include the sounds of music created by Lake Linden Hubbell’s music program, as well as the MTU pep band, the Jeffers Drum Club, and other student bands from the area.
I also think that music is a great tool for bringing communities together. And I think it’s great that all of our students get to see the application of music outside of a school setting. What more can you do with band or music outside of band class? I think that having this kind of advocates for music programs in schools in a way. It shows people just how important it is. It never ceases to amaze me. Again, I think back to that, that Father’s Day flood in, it’s just amazing how many people can come together last minute and clear their schedules, clear everything to just be there for our community, even when it’s, I mean, it’s wasn’t, you know, it wasn’t like Lyndon’s fire. It was Loriam’s fire, but we’re all still 100% with them. – Micah Erickson, Music Department Director, Lake Linden Hubbell Schools
