- In today’s semifinals, Houghton faces Calumet at 10, and Hancock takes on Marquette at noon.
- Tomorrow, the consolation match will begin at 9, with the title tilt at 11.
With Tech basketball and the CCSA tournament also scheduled today, MTU officials are asking fans who attend the JV hockey tourney to park on the north side of the SDC, using either the medical clinic lot or the St. Albert lot. The regular SDC lot will be available tomorrow.
In boys basketball last night…
- Calumet fell to Gwinn 37-35. The Modeltowners scored the first 11 points of the game. A late Copper Kings comeback fell just short. Kent Koskela netted 10 for Calumet. Waylon Sales scored 12 for Gwinn.
- Hancock lost to Ironwood 65-20.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell outscored Chassell 68-50. Josh Daavettila of the Lakes scored 36 points.
- Ewen-Trout Creek stopped L’Anse 60-49.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City dispatched Baraga 56-37.
- Forest Park overwhelmed Bark River-Harris 80-31.
In girls play last evening…
- Calumet got past West Iron County 48-37
- Baraga smothered Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 45-16.
In boys action today…
- Jeffers entertains Gwinn. Varsity tip-off is at 11:00.
Members of the Houghton swim team will take part in the U.P. Finals today in Marquette.
College Basketball
Both Michigan Tech teams welcome Lake Superior State today – the women at noon, and the men at 2:00. Whichever team wins the men’s game will take over sole possession of first place in the GLIAC.
Both Northern teams entertain Ferris State this afternoon.
College Hockey
The MTU hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision at Augustana last night. Chase Pietila scored the Huskies’ only goal. Ryan Manzella took the loss in net. Those teams play again tonight in Sioux Falls.
Northern’s hockey team has the weekend off.
College Skiing
The Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan Nordic ski teams will be among those competing at the CCSA championships at the Tech Trails this weekend.
Great Lakes Hockey League
The Portage Lake Pioneers defeated the Sun Prairie Killer Bees last night (score not reported). The Pios will entertain the Eagle River Falcons tonight at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.
The Calumet Wolverines suffered a 4-0 loss to the Falcons last evening, and host the Killer Bees tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
NHL
The Red Wings are off until February 22nd, as the NHL continues its pause to allow players to compete in the 4 Nations Face-Off.
NBA
The Pistons are off until Friday, when they visit the Spurs. Coverage will begin at 8:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
