Baraga County has launched a new area-focused development corporation in the region. On Tuesday the Baraga County Chamber of Commerce announced its support and participation in the newly formed L’Anse Area Community Development Corporation. The LACDC and its stakeholders will seek to address challenges related to developing housing in the L’Anse area. The development corporation will start with a focus on the L’Anse area with hopes to expand into the greater region and affect development challenges across the Western Upper Peninsula.
Community Development Corporations operate as non-profit community-based organizations that bring resources ideas stakeholders together to improve the quality of life in the community. In 2023 the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development region, with its Barga County partners, secured a grant to establish a housing-focused group. The L’asne Area Community Development Corporation’s board of directors contains residents of the community and business leaders working in Baraga County.
