In girls action…
- Calumet overcame a scoreless first quarter, and defeated Houghton 54-45. The Copper Kings trailed 13-0 as the second quarter opened, then outscored the Gremlins 19-3 to claim a three-point halftime lead. Jackie Kiilunen scored 22 for Calumet, and Kiirsi Johnson added 10. Ruby Zawada led the Gremlins with 13 points, Ellie Hainault had 11, and Eva Gerard 10.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell edged L’Anse 74-73. Emily Jokela of the Lakes led all scorers with 38. Mylee Londo had 27 for the Purple Hornets.
- Baraga fell to Ishpeming 43-40 in overtime.
- Ontonagon overpowered Watersmeet 57-14.

At the MHSAA Alpine Ski Regionals at Boyne Highlands yesterday…
The Houghton boys qualified for the state meet with a third-place team finish, behind Petoskey and Great North Alpine (a co-op including Traverse City St. Francis, Elk Rapids, Central Lake and the Grand Traverse Academy.
Eli Heathman led Houghton with second place finishes in the slalom and the giant slalom. Jack Hauesler finished sixth in the slalom.- The Houghton girls just missed out on qualifying, with a fifth-place finish. Rachel Sun finished in 10th in the slalom, and qualified for the state meet individually.

NFL
Aaron Rodgers’ NFL run may have ended. New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said yesterday that the team is ready to move on from the 41-year-old quarterback. Rodgers joined the Jets two years ago, after departing from the Packers. He missed his first season with an injury, then led the team to a 5-12 record this past season.
