If you’ve been to Copper Dog you’ve heard the dogs howling. Excited to pull the sled, get on the trail, and complete the CopperDog 150. Just like the dogs howling in excitement at the start of the race, organizers are howling with excitement ahead of February 28th. Calling on volunteers to join the crews in setting up road crossings, checking bags, and handling dogs.
Many road crossings need a team of volunteers to work in tandem just like how sled dog teams do. Crossing with more than five volunteers typically includes a crossing guard coordinator who is in charge of vests, temporary fencing, and other equipment for the site. Large crossing teams even include someone acting as a spotter to look out for sled teams coming down the trail and cars traveling on the road.
Most large volunteer teams work near the trail crossings along the highway such as sites #30 near Calumet, #219C, and #320 near Phoenix on Friday night. Sunday requires some of the race weekend’s largest teams of volunteers. Road crossings that will need a well-coordinated team of volunteers on the final day of CopperDog include crossing #30, #285, #312, #320, #365,#390, and #411.
Large group road-crossing volunteer opportunities are great for student organizations, non-profit groups, businesses, and sponsors looking for ways to get involved in the Copper Country premiere race weekend.
