He was born on February 20, 1963, in Hancock, a son of the late James and Rita (O’Brien) Massie. Karl was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1981.
Following High School Mr. Massie worked for Herman Gundlach Contracting and Martino Morris Contracting before beginning a career working for Great Lakes Plastics until his health would no longer allow him to work.
Karl enjoyed being outdoors Camping, fishing trips with his family to Isle Royal, thinking on projects, going for side x side rides taking Sunday Sauna’s and working on his boats.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his beloved fury friend Collie.
Surviving are: His brothers and sisters: Dorene (LeRoy) Bonds of Hubbell Bobby (Shana)Massie of Greer, SC Paul (Sheri Westman) Massie of Ontonagon Roger (Darlene) Massie of Mahtowa, MN Charlene (John) Sintkowski of Houghton Kevin (Tracy) Massie of Ahmeek Jason (Carrie) Massie of Atlantic Mine Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins
Karl’s family would like to thank Mark Coponen and his family with the years of friendship they shared with Karl over the years.
As requested, a private graveside service will be held later this year in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
