The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park ranks top in the DNR Center for Outdoor Adventure’s annual State Park Madness bracket challenge.
In the past month, the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park beat out Meridan Baseline State Park, the Holly Recreation Area, Tawas Point, and Ludington State Park through the competition’s rounds. The DNR Outdoor Adventure Center’s State Park Madness asked followers to choose their favorite state park out of a field of 32 parks. Other Upper Peninsula state parks included in the social media competition were Lime Island State Recreation Area, Palms Book State Park, and Straits State Park.
The 60,000-acre swatch of wilderness along the mighty Lake Superior greets more than 400,000 visitors each year. The park experienced a peak in visitation in 2021, boosted by recreation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and welcomed more than 600,000 visitors.
