High School
In high school hockey at the Trenton Showcase Saturday…
- Hancock lost to Bay City 4-1. Andrew Kaczmarczyk of the Wolves had a hat trick plus an assist. Bay City goalie Nash Leonard made 47 saves.
- Calumet fell 6-4 to Plymouth. The Copper Kings outshot the Wildcats 30-21. Plymouth built an early lead with two first-period goals. Scores by Liam Pomroy and Nat Londo in the second period tied the contest. Brady Boberg gave the Kings a brief lead early in the third period, but Plymouth re-tied the game 72 seconds later, then quickly reclaimed the lead. A late Erik Loukus goal narrowed the gap to one, but the Wildcats sealed the game with an empty-netter. Hear the game replay here.
- Houghton dropped a 4-3 decision to Flint Powers. Braden Kari gave the Gremlins a short-lived lead with a goal early in the second period. Powers responded with two scores. Brody Donnelly tied the contest early in the third, but the Chargers again responded with two tallies. Donnelly’s second goal of the night came late in the game, after the Gremlins pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Ayden Cook had a hat trick for Powers.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team lost 69-51 to top-ranked Grand Valley Saturday. Kendall Standfest scored 13 for the Huskies.
The Tech men’s team clobbered the Lakers 81-66. Marcus Tomashek netted 24 points.
The Northern Michigan women’s squad shut down Davenport 80-41 Saturday. Jacy Weisbrod led the Wildcats with 15 points. Northern limited the Panthers to just 21 points over the first three quarters.
The NMU men’s team outscored Davenport 86-57. Julien Smith scored 20, as coach Matt Majkzak notched his 100th win with the Wildcats.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team had this weekend off.
Northern Michigan fell behind early, and lost 5-2 to Bowling Green Saturday. Tanner Latsch and Rasmus Larsson scored for the Wildcats.
Great Lakes Hockey League
The Calumet Wolverines outskated the Fond du Lac Bears 9-5 at the Colosseum Saturday. Matt Yeo scored twice for the Wolves, and Matt Ryynanen got the win in net in his first GLHL game.
NHL
Cam Talbot made 33 saves, as the Red Wings stopped the Flames 3-1 Saturday night. Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson gave Detroit an early lead, and Andrew Copp sealed it with an empty-netter.
The Wings have won five straight, and visit the Canucks tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Pistons will host the Bulls this afternoon.
