Elwood Melvin Niemi, 64, of L’Anse, Michigan, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Elwood was born on November 7, 1960, in L’Anse, Michigan, to Elwood and Ruth Ann (Reed) Niemi. He attended L’Anse Area Schools and spent much of his life working as a dedicated logger for John Vuk Logging and later for himself. Elwood retired in 2011 due to health challenges.
An avid outdoorsman, Elwood found great joy in fishing and hunting, pursuits that connected him to the natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula. He also had a love for cooking.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Niemi of L’Anse; his children, Britney, Jacque, Elwood Jr., Rachel, and Angel; stepchildren, Keith Almli, Jessica (Shawn Lamson) Almli, and Eric (Tashina Emery) Almli; and his sisters, Mary Niemi, Linda (Ben) Dorsky, and Sandra (Chad) Rice, all of L’Anse. Elwood was also a proud grandfather to Archer, Roman, Emma, Emberlyn, Har, Jovi, Zoie, and many other cherished grandchildren.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Ruth Niemi.
Honoring his wishes, no funeral service will be held. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
