For the first time in three years, sewer rates will increase in the Village of L’Anse.

At last night’s meeting, the council approved a five year rate plan that will include a three percent cost-of-living hike each summer. The first increase will take effect in July, and will amount to a $3.17 boost to the base rate. The measured commodity rate will rise from $6.25 per thousand gallons to $6.50.
Council members noted that the three percent increase is far below the rate of inflation since the last rate increase in the summer of 2022.
The L’Anse police department is getting busier. Police Chief Chad Soli summarized last year’s activity…
Soli said the department responded to 200 more calls than it did five years ago. He noted that part of the reason for the increase is that the department is fully staffed for the first time in a long time. He added that a disproportionate number of calls seem to come from residents who have recently moved to the village from other places.
