The Keweenaw peninsula continues to become a premiere destination for friends and families looking to experience the great outdoors. Recently Visit Keweenaw opened applications for the tourism bureau’s Destination Development Grant program in 2025. The program over the past three years has funded several projects improving parks and recreation spaces, installed trail signage, and supported trail development and emergency response in the backcountry. Grants aim to enhance outdoor spaces and encourage recreation for visitors and residents in the Copper Country. Executive Director Brad Barnett says last year’s project ranged from trail development projects with downtown development authorities, to working with groups to install wayfinding signage. Visit Keweenaw plans to award grant funds in time for projects completed by September. The Destination development grant program will accept applications until March 31st.
