Two people were killed and four others injured in a traffic crash on US-2-and-41 on Thursday afternoon.
The Escanaba Public Safety Department reported that the accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Danforth Road.
Authorities say a Dodge Ram pickup truck, towing a snowmobile trailer, was traveling south on the highway when it collided with a Subaru that was attempting to turn west onto Danforth Road.
Rescue crews used the JAWS of Life to extricate the occupants of the Subaru, who were both pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of family members.
The four individuals in the truck were able to exit without assistance and were transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital with what police described as “non-life-threatening” injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Escanaba Public Safety Department received assistance from the Michigan State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Rampart, Delta County Central Dispatch, and Gene’s Towing.
