Houghton City Council wrapped up a short meeting full of celebration. City Manager Eric Waara informed the council that City Clerk Ann Vollrath and City Treasurer Jodi Reynolds will retire later this year. Waara says the city has begun to work on a transition plan so that it does not see a drop in services after both leave. Reynolds started with the city in 1988, and Vollrath began service as the clerk in 1997. During that time they assisted three city managers and provided many years of service to the community.
Other actions by the council included setting dates for the joint council meeting with the planning commission and downtown development authority and scheduling budget work sessions in March and April. The city council, planning commission and DDA will meet on March 5th. Budget work sessions will begin on March 19th.
