Alyce Irene Elmblad, age 89 of L’Anse, MI passed away Monday, January 20, 2025 at Norlite Nursing Center, Marquette, MI.
She was born in Pelkie, MI on September 9, 1935 the daughter of the late Matti and Lyyli (Pulkki) Oja. Alyce graduated from Baraga High School in 1953. In 1956 she received her Bachelor Degree in nursing from St. Lukes School of Nursing in Marquette. Alyce married Clyde Wallace Doyle Elmblad in Negaunee on July 3, 1957. Alyce had been employed at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse as a registered nurse for 40 years and retired in 1996. She had also been Dr. Stroube’s personal nurse. Alyce was a member of First Apostolic Lutheran Church. She had enjoyed playing softball on Berts Beauties and BCMH Women’s softball teams, coaching volleyball, skiing, and swimming. Alyce was such a strong swimmer, she had even swam across Portage Lake from their cottage in Chassell. She was also a talented saxophone and piano player. The thing she got the most joy from was traveling with her husband and spending time with her family.
Alyce is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Clyde of L’Anse, children Matthew (Gwenn) Elmblad of L’Anse, David Elmblad of L’Anse Mark (Carol) Elmblad of St. Ignace, Rebecca (Larry) Bergwall of Marquette, and William (Tracey) Elmblad of Marquette, grandchildren Eric (Hannah) Elmblad, Megan Elmblad (Christopher), Erika (Evelyn) Kurzac, Kyle (Meghan) Elmblad, Emily Elmblad, Nicole (Landon) Pohl, Elise (Zach) Roethlisberger, Lauren Elmblad, Erin Elmblad, Tyler Bergwall, Kayley Elmblad, and Kyley Elmblad, great grandchildren Chloe and McCoy, Brooklyn and Hallie, Maverick, Rowan, and John David. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Clyde Warren Elmblad, daughter-in-law Susan Elmblad, brothers Martin, Robert, Rudy, and Rueben and sisters Helen and Eleanor.
Funeral services for Alyce will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Renee Eliason officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. when the Upper Peninsula Nurses Honor Guard will conduct services. Immediately following the services, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home. Spring interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
