High School
In high school hockey last evening…
- Houghton doubled up Grandville 6-3. The Gremlins got a goal from Jace DeForge in the first period, then erupted for four tallies in the second, with goals from Jack Sayen, Hudson Markham, Teegan Tapani, and another from DeForge. Sayen found the empty net late in the game for his second of the night. Brycyn Nettel made 25 saves.
- Calumet outskated Northville 5-2. Erik Loukus scored the Copper Kings’ first two goals. Nathan Londo netted the game-winner late in the second period, and Luke Hamlin and Liam Pomroy added insurance tallies. Beau Jukuri made 16 saves to earn the win in net.
- Hancock lost 6-2 to Sault Ste Marie at the Soo Showcase.
- Jeffers edged Escanaba 3-2. Brit Heinonen scored twice for the Jets, and Griffin Heinonen found the net once. Kasen Helminen made 29 saves.

- Houghton got past Ironwood 57-47.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell lost to Bessemer 58-31.
- L’Anse fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 83-68.
In girls action…
- Calumet outscored Gwinn 46-34.
- Hancock downed Iron Mountain 60-50.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City slipped past Ironwood 39-33.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell smothered Bessemer 72-25. Emily Jokela of the Lakes led all scorers with 32 points.
- Baraga shut down Ontonagon 59-25.
- Forest Park stopped North Central 55-34.
The Hancock girls basketball teams will hold a returnables drive today. Cans and plastic bottles may be dropped off at the high school between 9 and noon. Glass bottles cannot be accepted.
The Houghton swim team will compete at the Marquette Splash event today.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team fell behind early, and dropped a 5-2 decision at 12th-ranked Minnesota State last night. Nick Williams and Stiven Sardarian scored for the Huskies. Derek Mullahy gave up three goals in the opening period, and was relieved by Ryan Manzella. Those teams play again tonight in Mankato.
Jakub Altrichter scored his first two collegiate goals, as the NMU hockey squad upended Bemidji State 4-1 last night. Matthew Romer also scored twice. Ryan Ouellette made 24 saves. Those teams face off again tonight in Bemidji.
College Basketball
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams entertain Wayne State today – the women at noon, and the men at 2:00.
Both Northern Michigan squads host Saginaw Valley State today.
NHL
The Red Wings visit the Lightning tonight. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, there will be no Wings broadcast.

The Pistons welcome the Suns this afternoon.
NFL
The NFL Divisional playoff games will be staged this weekend…
- In the NFC, the Lions host the Commanders tonight at 8, and the Eagles entertain the Rams tomorrow at 3.
- In the AFC, the Texans visit the Chiefs today at 4:30, and the Bills welcome the Ravens tomorrow at 6:30.

MLB
The Brewers have inked a deal with pitcher Elvin Rodriguez. Rodriguez made five starts for the Tigers back in 2022, but struggled. He wound up in Japan last year, where he compiled a 1.74 ERA in 88 innings of relief.
