The 27th Annual Noquemanon Ski Marathon has been canceled due to an unsafe lack of snow.
On a Facebook post on the event’s page Wednesday evening, organizers said while the Marquette area has received snow recently, there was still not enough to safely cover rocky outcroppings, even on a modified route.
Organizers said they intend on deferring the event to next year, along with any registrations for this year’s race.
She recommended skiiers still looking for a weekend on the trails think about heading up to the Big Bay Trails, the Saux Head Trails or over to Valley Spur in Munising.
On Sunday in the Copper Country Swedetown Trails Club will host Winter Trails Day. Cross Country Sports will offer skis, snowshoes, and snowbikes for participants to check out during a demo at the Chalet. People can also warm up in the chalet and enjoy refreshments after enjoying the Swedetown Trails. The event begins at noon on Sunday. Find more details here.
