Wolverines Win, Play for GLHL Season Title Tonight – Saturday Sports Wrap

High School

The match-ups are set for the state girls basketball championship games today. In Division Four, Saint Ignace will face Adrian Lenawee Christian this morning at 10:00. Lenawee Christian defeated Chassell to win last year’s state title. Hear the broadcast on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

In Division One, Saginaw Heritage will play Southfield A and T at 12:15. Pewamo-Westphalia will take on Flint Hamady in the Division Three championship game at 4:00. We’ll also broadcast that contest on KBear 102.3. Freeland will play Detroit Edison PSA for the Division Two crown at 6:15.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University women’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Sierra Jasmer is from Clarksville, Tennessee, where she was captain and Most Valuable Player on her high school team.

GLHL

The Calumet Wolverines closed out a perfect home season with a 5-2 victory over the Marquette Mutineers last night. Rory Anderson scored twice and had two assists for Calumet. Josh Harju, Alex Van Wagner and Logan Rastello also found the net. Ryan Patrick made 29 saves. The victory moves the Wolverines into a tie with the West Bend Bombers for first place in the season standings. Each team has one game remaining – Calumet skates at Eagle River tonight, and West Bend will visit the Fond du Lac Bears.

The Portage Lake Pioneers will host the Mutineers tonight at 7:30 at Dee Stadium to conclude their regular campaign.

The GLHL playoffs will take place next weekend. We’ll broadcast all of the Pioneers and Wolverines games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Vegas Golden Knights tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 9:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Portland Trail Blazers tonight.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost 4-3 to the Atlanta Braves in Grapefruit League play last evening. Tyson Ross gave up two runs in the first, then left as the Braves scored two more in the sixth. The Tigers will face the Tampa Bay Rays this afternoon. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers outscored the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 in Cactus League action yesterday. Prospect Lucas Erceg homered. Starter Zach Davies gave up four runs in the first two innings, then settled down and pitched into the sixth. The Brewers will split their squad for games against the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals this afternoon.

Milwaukee is set to bring in former Detroit Tigers reliever Alex Wilson. Pending a physical, he’ll help fill the gap left by injuries to Cory Knebel and Jeremy Jeffress. Wilson had been in the Cleveland Indians training camp on a minor league deal.
