In boys basketball last night…
– Houghton edged Escanaba 60-56.
– Hancock lost to Ontonagon 77-28.
– Calumet outscored Chassell 72-61.
– Jeffers downed Lake Linden-Hubbell 52-31.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City remained unbeaten by shutting down Republic-Michigamme 69-35.
– Ewen-Trout Creek smothered Baraga 66-24.
– L’Anse fell to West Iron County 51-29.

The Houghton swim team competes at the U.P. Finals at Marquette today.

Finlandia
The Finlandia women’s hockey team defeated Aurora University 4-1 last night. Kylee Dyni’s first collegiate goal put the Lions on the board just 14 seconds into the game. Sierra Meiners scored the eventual game-winner midway through the first period, and Abby Kolek and Natasha Kern added insurance tallies. Annah Smiddy made 26 saves to get the win in net. Finlandia wraps up its season with a final match against Aurora this afternoon at 2:00 at the Houghton County Arena.

The Finlandia men’s basketball team ends its season today at home against Lakeland College. Tip off is at 1:00. Our pregame coverage will begin around 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.

MTU/NMU
The Michigan Tech hockey team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Arizona State last night. Jake Lucchini gave the Huskies an early lead with a first-period goal. ASU tied the game early in the second period, and won it when Jacob Wilson beat Devin Kero 2:24 into overtime. Kero stopped 21 shots for Tech. Those teams play again tonight at 7:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

The Northern Michigan University hockey team is off this weekend.

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams entertain Lake Superior State this afternoon. The women’s contest tips off at 1:00, and the men’s at 3:00.

Both Northern Michigan University basketball teams host Ferris State today.

Cody Carlson’s overtime goal lifted the Calumet Wolverines to a 6-5 victory and a season sweep over the Marquette Mutineers last night.

The Portage Lake Pioneers visit the De Pere Deacons tonight.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Nashville Predators tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers have extended their player development agreement with the Toledo Mud Hens through the 2020 season.

Former Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez has signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins. Reports say the deal will pay him 2.5-million dollars plus incentives, but only if he makes the major league roster at the end of spring training.

Our high school hockey coverage continues Monday night, when Hancock skates at Kingsford. The broadcast will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. We’ll also broadcast Monday’s Houghton at Hancock girls basketball game,  with pregame coverage beginning around 7:00 on 97.7 The Wolf and TheWolf.com. And, we ‘ll provide complete coverage of every local team in the state hockey tournament beginning February 26th, along with full coverage of the Class C boys and girls basketball tournaments.
