MLB
Francisco Rodriguez struggled again, and the Detroit Tigers lost to the Seattle Mariners 6-5 in a 15-inning game that ended early this morning. Victor Martinez’ home run in the top of the 15th broke a 4-4 tie. Rodriguez came in to close the game, but gave up a walk, two singles and a sacrifice fly, and suffered the loss. It wasn’t the first Detroit bullpen meltdown of the night. The Tigers led 4-1 in the eighth inning, until Justin Wilson gave up a three-run homer. Miguel Cabrera also homered for the Tigers. Starter Daniel Norris gave up one run over five innings.

The Tigers wrap up that series at Seattle tonight. Justin Verlander will pitch against Felix Hernandez. Hear the first pitch at 10:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland won yesterday, so Detroit now trails the Indians by three and a half games in the American League Central Division.

Tigers outfielder Cameron Maybin’s sprained thumb is taking longer to heal than originally expected. He’s been placed on the disabled list.

Peralta
Peralta

Wily Peralta pitched well in his return from the minor leagues, but the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Atlanta Braves 2-1 last night. Peralta turned in six shutout innings, but was charged with both Atlanta runs that scored in the seventh. Ryan Braun homered for Milwaukee.

Prince Fielder Tigers
Fielder

The Brewers host the Braves again this evening. Chase Anderson will pitch against Joel De La Cruz.

Former Tigers and Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder is expected to announce today that his career is over at age 32. Fielder recently underwent a second spinal fusion surgery in his neck. Multiple media reports say doctors will not clear him to play again. Fielder is a six-time All-Star, and was named Comeback Player of the Year in the American League last season after recovering from his first neck surgery.
